SANKHU

Small and pleasant town of sankhu is a major pilgrimage site with the temple of vajrajogini. It is an old charming Newar village situated 16 km east of kathmandu. This legendary village is worth a visit because of its old houses, woodcarven windows and stone water taps.

HIKING TO SANKHU from Nagarkot
The bumpy road to Sankhu goes always downhill and can be reached in about 3 hours from Nagarkot.The trail to this pleasant town goes down steeping to the northwest from Nagarkot.

Because it is a long and circuitous route from Sankhu back to Nagarkot, the hike to sankhu works best as a way of returning to kathmandu. In Sankhu, you can visit to the Vajra Jogini Temple.

Places to Stay and eat

There are best places to stay and eat for every budget guests. Nagarkot has an array of different types of accomodation from top-end resorts to small lodges making it enjoyable for all kinds of tourists. The choice is yours.

If you plan to stay over-night during the high-season ( winter time) from October to March, it is best to book your hotel room in advance, as they often become full later in the day. If you arrive later in the afternoon, you may have to take whatever you can get which may mean a room without views. In offseason, you can get a 50% discount in room rates.

Peaceful Cottage and café du Mont is a simple but well-run place with just 11 rooms. It is a backpackers resort in Nagarkot and is worth recommending. It is famous for its himalayan views- the himalayan peaks at dawn are a magnificent sight to behold from the rooftop of this resort.

Please do not expect so much facility and standard from this resort as it is budget resort.

Rooms
The resort has a varied set of rooms with budget rooms all at dirt-cheap rates.

BUDGET ROOMS
Budget rooms are basic without any charm. The rooms are much cheaper but rather cramped. These cheapest guest rooms have share common bathrooms and are located downstairs. The rooms are not really up to much standard. It is not recommended for couples. The tariff is $ 8 , I SUPPOSE.

STANDARD ROOMS
Standard rooms are comfortable with spectacular views from the room and have attached bathrooms. You do not even have to get out of the room to appreciate the views of mountains. The rooms are simple but neat, clean and very acceptable. The price ranges from $20-30 per night.


Things to bring
Bring warm clothes as the temperature in Nagarkot is noticeably cooler than kathmandu. In afternoon, it is windy and chill in Nagarkot. And the wind which regularly howls down the rural countryside in afternoon can be viciously cold and strong.

Things to know before going to Nagarkot

Public Buses
Public buses are the main form of transportation and are incredibly cheap, incredibly uncomfortable and tediously slow. The buses to Nagarkot are always behind schedule and is jampacked. Buses ply almost every hour for Rs. 18 (NC).

Mountain-Biking Destination
Nagarkot is a great venue for mountain biking where international mountain biking competition has been held.
